Teal equip a pioneering new retirement village with care and support facilities for the elderly with its design led care home and residential furniture, the vision of registered charity The ExtraCare Charitable Trust.
Wixams Retirement Village, Bedford is one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting new retirement villages, providing 230 spacious and well-appointed apartments, each with its own front door, living room, one or two bedrooms, kitchen and shower room spread throughout the 4-storey complex.
Teal equipped the impressive communal areas with its stylish soft seating ranges. Atrium areas feature ‘Idro’ sofas with stylish, classic design and superior comfort, while the library area is equipped with the ‘Anumo’ soft seating range, affectionately known as the ‘Hug’ and designed in collaboration with designers Ali and Nick Munro. The concept started by discussing relationships and how that interaction could be developed into a piece of furniture.
The elegant ‘Virtuoso’, a range of stylish statement chairs, with supportive curved high back and subtle detailing appears throughout the new village, and, as with all the furniture supplied by Teal, helps to create beautiful living spaces which are sensitive to the users’ needs. All furniture supplied by Teal is designed to make life easier for residents, even if mobility is limited.
The village centre which is open to residents, their families and members of the wider local community provides a whole range of communal, social and leisure facilities. These include a village hall, library and IT suite, bar and bistro, fitness gym, hairdressing and beauty salon and shop. A well-being and specialist dementia service are also located within the village centre.
