A state-of-the-art specialist mental health facility has opened in the heart of Chester, helping to deliver support for perinatal mothers, babies and their families from across Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales.
Seren Lodge, operated by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a new specialist eight bedded unit designed to provide compassionate care for pregnant and postnatal women who are experiencing severe mental ill-health.
The light and space within the single storey building supports calmness and relaxation, while specialist furniture provided by Teal contributes towards a therapeutic and healing environment for women experiencing maternal mental health difficulties.
Designed in partnership with clinicians and input from women with real life lived experience of maternal mental ill health the new £7.5 m facility delivers a wide range of therapies and support in uplifting interiors. Seren Lodge is a valuable community asset in the North Wales area, as traditionally women have had to travel long distances to a mother and baby unit in a neighbouring city.
Teal’s Lifecare products were selected for multiple spaces, helping to support recovery, quiet time and family visits. Communal spaces feature ‘Idro’ contemporary sofas, providing a real focal point within communal lounge spaces, with carefully selected healthcare appropriate upholstery fabrics to further individualise the space. Within the nursery areas Teal provided supportive ‘Galloway’ high back chairs, helping to create a welcoming communal and family-focused space.
The stylish communal dining spaces feature ‘Coast’ tables with distinctive underframe to further enhance the interior with concealed security fixings for added safety and security.
Seren Lodge follows in the footsteps of other Mother & Baby Units completed by Teal, including the Ribblemere Unit in Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.
