Knowl Park House - Kirklees Council
Teal LifeCare were selected to provide specialist healthcare furniture throughout a new ‘state-of-the-art’ dementia daycare centre and Centre of Excellence in West Yorkshire, helping to deliver Kirklees Council’s design vision and philosophy of care.
Knowl Park House a new single-storey daycare centre, in Mirfield, provides 25 places and meets the University of Stirling’s Gold Standard for dementia-friendly environments.
Working closely with key stakeholders Teal helped deliver a stylish and therapeutic environment that is both safe and uplifting for service users and staff. The layout at the centre is based on four distinct zones – Wellbeing, Home Therapy, a Garden Zone and Arts and Crafts.
A beautiful range of fabrics helped to create a bespoke, stylish and fresh new look from the outset, adhering closely to the recommendations of University of Stirling and evidence-based design research such as Light Reflectance Values. The chosen upholstery features contrast seat and back fabrics on armchairs, both anti-microbial and impervious.
The Happy Memories dementia café features specialist Teal recliner chairs, while corridor spaces feature ergonomically designed armchairs with deep comfort cushions, supportive backs and subtle detailing - designed to be both dementia friendly and age appropriate. The furniture helps to create an informal and relaxing space for peaceful reflection or interaction, with views over the beautiful surrounding landscaped gardens.
Spaces also benefit from bespoke room dividers/planters in the communal dining area, designed to create more intimate dining spaces for service users and their families.
Alongside the daycare centre, the Centre of Excellence also showcases dementia friendly bedroom furniture supplied by Teal as well as the latest advancements in dementia care.
