Teal equip the new Adel Beck Secure Children’s Home with its specialist range of challenging environments furniture for children.
The 12.5M project to construct new facilities for the new secure Children’s Home in Leeds was delivered by BAM Construction on behalf of Leeds City Council, with interior finishes and fabrics created by Keppie Design.
The new predominantly single storey accommodation adjacent to the site of the out-dated existing buildings has created 24 bedrooms, a teaching block, canteen, leisure facilities and administrative space, with top priority accorded to security and surveillance measures. Work began in August 2013, with completion in January 2015.
Teal worked in close collaboration with the Project Coordinator at Leeds City Council on specification and security and with the Design Manager at Bam Construction Ltd. Teal’s mobile display vehicle visited the Leeds unit, allowing the Unit Manager and team to review a wide range of products for challenging behaviour on site.
The furniture on display creates a bright, contemporary and non-clinical feel and coordinates with the fresh colour palette created as part of the Interior design strategy, with high specification finishes and fixtures throughout the education, administrative areas and individual house units.
Main reception areas feature contemporary ‘Ditto’ sofas and corner units, with contrasting back cushions and buttons. The main dining areas are equipped with heavyweight S-Frame security dining tables and Adeo dining chairs, with Medipur wipe clean surfaces. The striking education block features ‘Flex’ restraining and modular unit chairs in bright, contrasting vinyl, with circular ‘Orb’ foam seating supplied in fabrics designed to coordinate with the colours integrated into the building design. The Administration training room features Teal tables and stylish Ikon stacking chairs. Children’s bedrooms incorporate Teal’s Revival Plus, PU welded mattresses, Flex soft foam cylinder seat and bespoke seat cushions.
Individual house units are equipped with brightly upholstered Cantabria two and three seat sofas, built to mental health specification, with boarded construction, security screws and no visible staples or back tacking.
