We engage with people in the communities in which we operate and take every opportunity to do this in an ethical, charitable and socially responsible way. We have a range of policies and business ethics that clearly set out how the company wishes to operate, and that are designed to promote a culture of corporate and social responsibility across the business.
We have embedded CR and Sustainability in our organisation through the management of our sites, the delivery of our operations, the core values of our people and our stakeholder relationships. Our framework for delivering a responsible and sustainable business is to structure our initiatives into four themes - our people, community, environment and marketplace.
Marketplace is the key theme that drives our procurement strategy where we strive to be a responsible business and place great value on relationships with customers and suppliers. A key priority for our purchasing and supply chain teams is ensuring that we work responsibly with our suppliers to address improvements in both our environmental and societal impact otherwise known as our Sustainable Procurement Programme. As a result of this we introduced a number of positive initiatives such as the reduction of our energy consumption and management of our waste through recycling schemes after working with both our FM provider and some of our component manufacturers. We are widening our perspective further as we recognise the vital role that our suppliers play in the achievement of our CSR objectives. We have established a Sustainable Procurement programme through which the Company will seek to maximise the contribution of suppliers to the process.
The Senator Group currently works with many organisations to support community projects whether this is via charitable donations, skills training and apprenticeship opportunities, and work opportunities.
The Senator Group actively promotes apprenticeship and work placement opportunities across the business via our apprenticeship programme which is run by our HR team and production Directors. We work with Burnley College, Blackburn College and the University of Central Lancashire to promote our apprenticeship scheme, taking on 25 people each year across the business with the majority of apprentice’s entering our manufacturing departments. We take on a small number of graduates each year.
The Senator Group supports projects across the UK to provide training and employment opportunities. We work with One3One Solutions a government enterprise within the Prison system and Blind Craft, based in Glasgow, to provide work and training for prisoners, ex-prisoners, ex Service personnel and homeless people. We work very closely with Recycling Lives in the North West - an awarding winning company who employ long term unemployed people as well as ex prison inmates to aid their re-entry into mainstream life. We send them materials for reprocessing and they use them for training and working with these materials.
We support the Extracare Charitable Trust by volunteering at their National Events and we donate furniture samples to The British Heart Foundation. Senator is also a patron member of the state of the art Youth Zone in Blackburn which was set up to support the local community, particularly local youths with out of school activities and a safe place to meet and hang out.
