Manannan Court Case Study

Client: Manannan Court, Isle of Man Date: 2017

Safety is the number one focus at Manannan Court, a new purpose built acute adult psychiatric inpatient facility on the Isle of Man, which provides help for those with mental health issues, learning dif culties, alcohol and drug addictions, while addressing Government priority to protect the most vulnerable in society.

The unit has been equipped with Teal’s specialist furniture throughout, designed to the latest safety standards. Sofas and armchairs feature extreme use boarded plywood panels and non-retractable security screws. The award winning Roku® tub chairs with flowing design makes the furniture difficult to pick up, with rounded corners and heavy weighting to 50 kg to limit misuse, increase stability and to maximise safety.

A key decision by the client was to specify all upholstery with Teal’s unique ‘Plus+’ complete upholstery, which features sewn in sealed seams to prevent concealment and for ease of cleaning.

Minister for Health and Social Care, Kate Beecroft MHK commented ‘This new inpatient unit is a key part of the strategy, ensuring patients with the greatest need are assured of a safe and positive therapeutic environment that focuses on treatment and recovery.’
